Message to the Bowdoin Community — February 16, 2016

To the Bowdoin community,

This morning we are announcing a remarkable gift of $10 million from Barb and Dave Roux that will transform the study of the environment at the College. A new building, The Roux Center for the Environment, will be built. While the building itself is exciting, it is what we envision for the work to be done within it that will be transformative. It will be designed to bring together faculty and students from across disciplines to encourage and facilitate creativity and collaboration about global problems of the environment. We are blessed with dedicated and talented faculty and with students and staff across many departments, programs, and disciplines who are vigorously engaged in outstanding research and teaching involving issues and questions of the environment. This gift will allow us to further strengthen and extend our outstanding scholarship and teaching, enhance our identity as a preeminent college in the study of the environment, and draw even more great students and scholars to Bowdoin.

Background information about and the current timetable are in the announcement now posted on the Bowdoin website .

Please join me in thanking Barb and Dave Roux for their extraordinary generosity and commitment to our College.

Sincerely,

Clayton
