Message to the Campus Community — Dean of Student Affairs Search Update (November 20, 2018)

To the Bowdoin campus community,

I am writing with an update on the search for the dean of student affairs to replace Tim Foster, who will be retiring in June 2019.

We have retained the search firm of Storbeck/Pimentel & Associates to work with the College on this search. Shelly Storbeck, the co-founder and managing director of the firm, will be on campus on Thursday, November 29, to gather insights from our community regarding the new dean. Details on these meetings will be available shortly.

Eleven faculty, students, and staff have agreed to join me and serve on the search committee, and I am grateful for their willingness to bring their time, judgement, and wisdom to bear on this important task. The committee’s members are:

Dana E. Byrd, assistant professor of art history
Katie Byrnes, director of the Baldwin Program for Academic Development, Center for Learning and Teaching
Paul Franco, professor of government
Liz McCormack, dean for academic affairs
Eli Orlic, vice president and special assistant to the president & secretary of the College
Seth Ramus, director of health professions advising
Michael Reed, senior vice president for inclusion and diversity
Amber Rock ’19
Clayton Rose, president (chair)
Tama Spoerri, vice president for human resources
Jake Stenquist ’19
Archer Thomas ’21

In addition to the campus meetings that will take place on November 29, you may share your thoughts on the search with the committee by sending an email to deansearch@bowdoin.edu.

All the best,

Clayton
