Message to Students — November 30, 2015

To all Bowdoin students:

I will be leading a “Town Hall” meeting Tuesday, December 8, at 7:00 p.m. in Smith Union’s Morrell Lounge. The topic will be “Why do issues of race matter if I’m white?”  In a recent meeting I had with members of our multicultural student leadership, we discussed the need for those in our community who are white to better understand why race matters and why engaging in the discourse on race is important for each of us and for all of us. The meeting is one forum for addressing this need. I will make some remarks at the beginning that address the question for the evening, and I will then open the floor to anyone who has a question or comment.

I strongly urge each of you to make the time to attend this “Town Hall” and to engage in this discussion.  All questions and comments that are intended to help learn or teach will be welcome.

Sincerely,

Clayton
