Dear faculty and staff,

I am very pleased to report that Matthew Orlando, our current vice president for finance and assistant treasurer, has agreed to lead our staff in finance and administration and in the treasurer’s office on an interim basis when Katy Longley leaves the College at the end of June. The College will conduct a national search for Katy’s permanent successor. In the meantime, I am grateful to Matt for his willingness to lend his considerable expertise and management ability to this critical role.

As many of you know from working with Matt over the years, he plays a key part in helping to manage the finances of the College, both with all of us and with the board of trustees. In this role as vice president and interim head of finance and administration & treasurer, Matt will continue to oversee the Controller’s Office while also supervising staff in capital projects, the children’s center, dining services, events and summer programs, facilities management, human resources, and safety and security.

Matt came to Bowdoin a decade ago from Hamilton College, where he served as controller and director of budgets. A chartered financial analyst (CFA), Matt earned his undergraduate degree in economics Phi Beta Kappa with honors at Trinity College in Hartford, and an MBA at St. Xavier University in Chicago. A generous and active participant in community affairs, Matt serves currently on the boards of the Town of Brunswick Trust Investment Advisory Committee and Mid Coast-Parkview Health, and as board treasurer and chair of the Finance & Administration Committee for the United Way of Mid Coast Maine. He is also board treasurer for the Brunswick Cal Ripken Youth Baseball League.

We will soon share more information about the national search for Katy’s permanent successor, and we will plan a farewell event in Katy’s honor. For now, please join me in thanking Matt for taking on these significant responsibilities. I look forward to working closely with him in the weeks to come.
