To the Bowdoin community,

I write with the news that Mitch Davis, our senior vice president and chief information officer, will be leaving the College at the end of June to move to Hanover, New Hampshire, where he will become vice president and chief information officer at Dartmouth College​.

This is a great opportunity for Mitch, who will establish and implement an institution-wide vision for information technology at Dartmouth, bringing with him the outstanding track record for leadership, collaboration, client service, and innovation that he has demonstrated here for the past fourteen years. While we are sad to see him go, Mitch has built a team and systems that position Bowdoin as a national leader in technology, and he leaves us in very able hands and in a profoundly strong place.

The list of Mitch’s contributions to the College is long, varied, and deeply impressive. In fact, it is easy to take for granted the level of service and the sophistication of the technology we enjoy today at Bowdoin. The technology advances here are the direct result of the insight, the entrepreneurial spirit, the appetite for invention, and the ability to take an idea from concept to conclusion that Mitch has always exemplified and that he very intentionally built into the ethos of the division.

I have asked Steve Blanc, vice president and associate chief information officer, and Abbie Brown, vice president of enterprise systems and project management, to step in as interim co-heads of information technology on July 1. They will report to me, and I am grateful for their willingness to lead the terrific team in IT as we conduct a national search for Mitch’s successor.

Mitch will be with us for several more weeks, and we will find a time to gather to celebrate his many contributions to the College. In the meantime, I know you join me in congratulating Mitch and in thanking him for all he has done for Bowdoin.
