Social Media Managers Lunch, Learn, and Collaborate

Social media managers from across campus gathered for lunch on Valentine’s Day to share ideas, discuss strategy, explore ways for even more collaboration.

Led by Digital Community Manager Chelsea Doyle, the group discussed ways to promote their social media accounts and gain new followers, as well as new trends and opportunities, such as the continued rise in popularity of video and Facebook’s tool to auto-generate video captions.

Richard Escorio from Dining shared how he posted an Instagram video of cookies coming out of the oven one evening, only to have such a rush that they ran out of cookies after only a few minutes. He also talked about their student-inspired mannequin challenge video.

Bowdoin Athletics’ Jim Caton and Micki Manheimer shared their recent project of creating a digital story about the Frozen Fenway event using Adobe Spark. Coach Chris Sapp oversees the student sports team social media accounts and discussed the value of student participation.

Looking ahead, the group discussed opportunities to participate in #BowdoinOneDay (April 26) and collaborate and cross-promote during events such as Reunion and Commencement.

The social media managers group will be meeting again this spring. If you’re interested in attending, contact Chelsea Doyle (cdoyle@bowdoin.edu) to be added to the Bowdoin social media managers email list.
